Short story: I discovered these stoles more than 20 years ago during one of my trips to Pakistan. Originally, they are "dupattas", the stole that Pakistani women wear either as a scarf on the head or across the shoulders to complete their outfit consisting of baggy pants and a tunic. The dupattas are entirely hand-embroidered and the traditional know-how is transmitted by women from generation to generation. - These pareos are embroidered and dyed by hand in rural workshops in Pakistan aiming to provide employment and income to village women. - If you have any questions about this article, please contact us at roshanara@roshanara.com
